
ORC Mediterranean Championship 2024: Sorrento Set to Host Premier Sailing Event
Sorrento, Italy - May 9, 2024 - Sailing enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly anticipating the ORC Mediterranean Championship, set to grace the picturesque shores of Sorrento from May 9th to May 11th, 2024. This esteemed event, supported by ROLEX as the Official Timepiece and organized under the authority of the Italian Sailing Federation, promises a thrilling showcase of sailing excellence.
Hosted by the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia and the ORC (Organizing Authority), in collaboration with the Yacht Club Italiano and the Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia, the championship features an array of exciting race formats tailored to challenge sailors of all levels.
The 2024 ORC Mediterranean Championship comprises two main components:
a) Windward/Leeward Races: Up to five (5) races will unfold with a windward/leeward course configuration set in the Bay of Naples off Sorrento from May 9th to May 11th. These races are eligible for the prestigious Campionato Nazionale del Medio e Basso Tirreno (CNT), adding an extra layer of excitement and competition to the event.
b) Long-Distance Race ("3G"): Adding to the excitement, the championship will feature a long-distance race covering approximately 150 nautical miles ("3G"). This race will take place on the same course as the 69th Regata dei Tre Golfi, commencing on Friday, May 17th off Naples. Notably, this race will also be eligible for the Italian National Offshore Championship, further raising the stakes for participants.
