SWAN 88 - THE FIRST HYBRID-ELECTRIC PROPULSION
On 22 April, the first unit of the Swan 88 with hybrid electric propulsion was launched at the Boatbuilding Technology Centre, the Nautor Swan shipyard's historic site in Pietarsaari, Finland.
The Swan 88 is the first model conceived from the outset to offer the option of hybrid electric propulsion and was realised in collaboration with Torqeedo for engine construction, German Frers for naval architecture, Misa Poggi for interior design and Lucio Micheletti, Micheletti + Partners, for exterior design.
With this vessel, Nautor Swan has made possible the existence of a true performance superyacht with minimal running costs. Specially designed to allow chartering by owners, the Swan 88 meets the 24-metre load line rule for compliance with the MCA's light charter regulations, simplifying the certification process required to offer the charter service.
The Swan 88 presents a series of highly innovative solutions for space, functional quality and comfort on board, both inside and out. The shape of the coachroof, inspired by the wind, with its essential and dynamic lines enhanced, as well as the transom that invites the ‘Beach Club’ bathing platform. Natural light penetrates the interior from the splendid ‘atrium’ of the gangway and from the windows of the coachroof and hull, guaranteeing great luminosity.
Additions dedicated to cruising are the shape of the keel, increased safety and excellent balance while sailing. The hull and deck are constructed entirely of epoxy carbon fibre, using the proven benefits of Sprint® lamination technology together with the yard's advanced proprietary carbon moulding technology.
The maxi yacht will make her world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, 10-15 September, and the Monaco Yacht Show, 25-28 September.
